Because They’re Funny (BTF) is an American comedy festival driven by a compelling mission: to spotlight the wealth of comedic talent within BIPOC comedian communities. The festival is dedicated to celebrating the diverse voices that enrich the comedy arena and to elevating a new generation of stand-up comedians to success in film, television, and live touring.
Curated to appeal to both industry insider and comedy fans alike, BTF’s lineup features headline acts, showcases spotlighting up-and-coming comics, comedy master classes, panels, and networking events. Kicking off the festival is “Comedy Cares,” a special charity dinner and show dedicated to supporting Washington DC-based organizations that positively impact diverse communities.
BTF is coming back to Washington, DC for its second year from September 27-29, 2024. After being named one of USA Today’s top 10 new events and drawing a crowd of over 5,200 in its first year, the festival will take place at the Anthem at the Wharf and various city venues.
Because They’re Funny Comedy Festival is a property of NICE CROWD, a leading entertainment company in the live events arena founded by Jeff and Nicole Friday. The event is presented in partnership with Events DC, the official convention and sports authority for the District of Columbia.
